The Great Takeover

Chapter 26 focuses mainly on the western part of the world and its impact on all other places of the globe. A spread of western ideas, civilization and influence is heavily seen in its age of new imperialism and formation of colonies in Asia and Africa between 1870 to 1914. This blog will focus on European Imperialism at that time and its overall impact. It is meant to accomplish a better understanding for the changes this new imperialism created in the world, and to take a look at how it is still effecting the US and other regions today.

Essential Question: What is the difference between a sphere of influence and economic imperialism?

Answer: Although very similar, these two are different types of control used by Europeans during New Imperialism. A sphere of influence is an area in which a power from outside the area claims all investment or trading privileges. Economic Imperialism takes on the tone of a business. it occurs when a lesser developed area is controlled by a private business and not by an official government.
